Etrian Mystery Dungeon (Japanese: 世界樹と不思議のダンジョン) is the fourth series in the Mystery Dungeon franchise, beginning in 2015 as a spin-off of the Etrian Odyssey franchise with the release of 
Etrian Mystery Dungeon. It is currently the latest Mystery Dungeon game to be a crossover with another franchise. The series takes place in a fictional setting.

Gameplay
The
Etrian Odyssey Dungeon series consists of video games in which the player explores
dungeons consisting of randomly generated or randomly selected grid floors, with turn based gameplay. Unique to this series are also the ability to go upstairs and downstairs in dungeons. The playable character varies on the
Classes available for each games and typically attacks
Monsters using a
Weapon, increases his defense by equipping a
Shield, and uses a variety of other items, to aid exploration, combat, or escape from dangerous situations. Such items are usually found on the ground and put in the player's inventory, where they can be managed, sorted, or identified to understand their usage and purpose. Because the inventory space is limited, inventory management is an important part of the game. Players decide which items they should keep or discard, and when it is best to use them.
