NOTE: this page started out as a copy of the Garden of Destiny page. need to update with info

Bladeless Wasteland is a bonus dungeon in the Nintendo Switch and Steam versions of Shiren 5 Plus. Your direct attacks only do 1 damage, so you must find other ways to defeat monsters. You cannot take items, Gitan, or allies into the dungeon. You can request rescue up to 3 times, and you keep any items you have on hand if you win. The dungeon is daytime only and the initial goal floor is 25 F. After the first victory, the goal floor becomes 99 F permanently.

Gaining Access

This bonus dungeon is accessed in the Dungeon Center of Nekomaneki Village.

Unique Features

--- Everything below this line is still a copy of the Garden of Destiny page ---

  • Garden of Destiny is divided into sections, each of which resembles a section in the Tower of Fortune main quest:
    • Destiny Trail: 1-5 F
    • Tower of the Past: 6-11 F
    • Tower of the Present: 12-17 F
    • Tower of the Future: 18-23 F
    • Tower of Fortune Unexplored Area: 24-27 F
    • Tower of Fortune: 28-38 F, including 3 outdoor floors 32-34 F with the arrow warp tiles
    • Tower of Miracles: 39-50 F
    • From 51 F and on, the floor theme seems to be randomized, changing every 2 to 5 floors.
    • There are no rest areas like the Hermit's Hermitage.
  • You receive more or fewer experience points depending on how many times you attack a monster directly:
    • You receive 250% as much exp as normal if you defeat a monster in one hit. Note that the monster can be damaged with projectiles or allies, and you will still be able to get this bonus as long as you kill them with a direct attack.
    • You receive 75% exp if you kill a monster on the second hit, and 30% exp if you kill a monster on the third hit or beyond.
      • Each attack, even a miss, decreases the exp gained.
    • You receive the normal amount (100%) of exp if the monster dies from anything other than your attack, including projectiles or an attack from an ally, no matter how many times you have attacked that monster previously.
    • Monsters you haven't attacked yet have a star icon on top, whereas monsters that you attacked show a downward arrow, indicating that the amount of exp is reduced.
  • While you cannot bring allies into the dungeon, you can recruit them just like in Tower of Fortune. They retain their level from outside the dungeon.
    • Tao, Jirokichi, Okon, Koharu, Kojurouta, and Gen can be recruited as allies. If you already have 3 allies, recruiting a fourth one will prompt you to send one of your allies back to the village.
    • Defeated allies can appear again on later floors. Jirokichi turns into a tombstone like in the main quest, and you can revive him with a healing item.
  • A wide range of items can be found, similar to other dungeons where you can't bring items in such as Primordial Chasm. But unlike in these dungeons, you can find swords and shields at levels higher than 1.
  • Monster difficulty ramps up faster than in Primordial Chasm.
    • Some particularly nasty families of monsters, such as Swordsmen and Mudkin, appear earlier and more often.
    • Mixers appear much later, with the first appearance on 18 F.
    • Maneaters appear as normal monsters starting on ~76F.
  • Normal and elite shops can be found in this dungeon. (Pick-a-Choice?) In addition, a wandering character also functions like a shop, letting you buy and sell items from a menu.
  • New Items can be found in this dungeon, but only after the first 50 floors.
  • All items are unidentified by default.
  • Characters can appear just like in Tower of Fortune.
  • This dungeon is normally daytime only, but the Time Switch trap does appear, and it changes the floor to night for the current floor only.

Final Reward

When you beat the 50F version of Garden of Destiny, you get a Rising Sun Shield. Completing the 99 F version of the dungeon gives you another Rising Sun Shield.

Farming Opportunities

Helix Shield can be found in this dungeon. (presumably its counterpart Kaguragi too?) These items can be tagged at any shopkeeper and later recovered at Hermit's Hermitage. The final reward Rising Sun Shield, obtained by beating the 50 F version of the dungeon, is also a strong shield, although its counterpart (Rising Sun) does not appear as a reward for beating any dungeon. High level equipment of all types (up to level 8) can be found deep in the dungeon, but making it there can be difficult.

Strategy

Before you enter, prepare a strong set of night abilities at Hotel Nekomaneki, as Time Switch trap can change the time to night for one floor. Since New Items start appearing after 50 F, having some strong new items (such as a bracelet with the Scout Bracelet effect) can really help if you are trying to beat the longer version of the dungeon.

The general Dungeon Tips apply here.

Mixers first appear on 18-20F, but it is hard to use them if you have allies. For this reason, it is not always a good idea to recruit an ally early if you want to do all your crafting on these floors. Some allies, such as Koharu and Jirokichi, don't tend to interfere with mixing as much as some others like Kojirouta. Mixermons appear on 35-37 F (see comment) , Mixerdons on 50-53 F, Mixergons on 61 F and 85-86 F.

You can damage monsters with projectiles and/or allies before landing the final hit on them, and still get the 250% exp bonus. Look for opportunities to gain massive amounts of exp: monsters with auras are worth twice as much exp, and high level monsters can be created with a Glorious Staff or various berserk, fear and confusion effects. If you have attacked them twice already, you will only gain 30% of the exp if you kill them with a direct attack, but you will still get the normal amount of exp if they are killed in any other way.

When identifying talismans and staves, you can test them on your allies so you don't have to risk having to fight a leveled up monster. Talismans and staves with beneficial effects can also be used on allies to aid them in a fight. Be careful when eating unidentified grass, since you will lose all your allies if you eat a Rage Grass. (On the other hand, it might be a good idea to get it out of the way early.)
