Meta:JERO
JERO (Japanese: ジェロ), also known by his full name Jerome Charles White Jr., is an enka singer of African and Japanese descent from the United States.[1] Enka was a genre of music that flourished in 1940s Japan, with "simple song themes about love and loss". JERO's (Japanese) grandmother introduced him to the songs as a child, to connect him with their culture. After studying Japanese in High School, and visiting Japan as an exchange student in college, he got his break after moving to Japan and appearing on an amateur singer TV show.[2]
Works
JERO appeared at the 2008 Tokyo Game Show, promoting Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer DS2 - Magic Castle of the Desert where his original song Shiren
[notes 1] was debuted. He also appeared in 2 commercials for Magic Castle DS, while cosplaying as Shiren with the song playing in the background.[3]
Mystery Dungeon References
The JERO II Mamel in Magic Castle DS appears to be a reference to JERO. The number "II" in the name may be a reference to the "Jr." in JERO's full name.
