Mystery Dungeon: Pokémon World: Pikachu's Great Adventure(UT) - This is an unofficial translation. (Japanese: 不思議のダンジョン ポケモンワールドピカチュウの大冒険) is a tentative title for Game Boy Advance/Nintendo DS Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Team and may be used to refer to prototype versions of the game.

Official Information

The game began development around November 2003, as reported by Tsunekazu Ishihara on the Japanese Pokémon website.[1]

In a 2012 interview, Shin'ichiro Tomie revealed he initially wrote a completely different story script, before suggesting the idea of a human turned Pokémon, which would later become the story of the released game. No information on the original concept was given.

Leaked Information

The tentative title was first mentioned on August 7, 2004 in the third thread of a Chunsoft general on 2channel, where the economical troubles of the company were being discussed and leaks were being posted.[2] The leaker claimed the game was being developed for the Nintendo DS, the then upcoming handheld hardware from Nintendo.[3] This tentative title was later reported by video game journalists in the west in October 2004, mentioning "a revival of the Mystery Dungeon franchise" with PlayStation 2 The Nightmare of Druaga: Fushigi no Dungeon being released months prior in the west.[4]

Observations

The subtitle "Pikachu's Great Adventure" is clearly inspired by that of Super Famicom Torneko's Great Adventure: Mystery Dungeon(UT) - This is an unofficial translation., the first Mystery Dungeon game, but with Pikachu instead of Torneko. This could mean that the game initially revolved entirely around playing as a Pikachu, although this is not confirmed. The same subtitle was coincidentally used for the Japanese name of the 2009 game PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure (Japanese: ポケパークWii ~ピカチュウの大冒険~, PokéPark Wii: Pikachū no Daibōken). "Pokémon World" being a separate part of the title could also be indicative of how different this early version of the game was.

The released game features content and mechanics similar to those seen in Game Boy Advance Dragon Quest Characters: Torneko's Great Adventure 3 Advance: Mystery Dungeon(UT) - This is an unofficial translation., released in 2004, only in Japan.
