The Schubell (Japanese: シューベル) Monster Family is a recurring group of four monsters in the Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer series. It made its debut in Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer in 1995, making it one of the Original Monster Families. Its most recent appearance was in / Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island in 2024.

The Schubell Family consists of:

Schubell (Japanese: シューベル, Shūberu)
Menbell (Japanese: メンベルス, Menberusu)
Bellthoven (Japanese: ベルトーベン, Berutōben)
Showpin (Japanese: ショーパン, Shōpan)

The Schubell Family has made a cameo appearance in the Danganronpa series in 2021, under the name Monobel.

Physical Appearance

Schubell Family Monsters are small, marshmallow-shaped creatures with stubby arms and legs that carry around a large bell in their right hand. Customary to their theme of composers, the Schubell Family Monsters have neat middle-parted hair which was popular at that time and instead of a mouth, these monsters have a bow tie.

Name Etymology

They are based on composers from the 1700s and 1800s: Schubell-Franz Schubert, Menbell-Felix Mendelssohn, Bellthoven-Ludwig van Beethoven, and Showpin-Frédéric Chopin, though their names have been modified to contain 'bell' to connect with this monster's ability and appearance.
