Combat Strategy

The Mutaikon family can throw detrimental grasses at you from a distance.

  • Mutaikon throws Poison Grass up to 2 spaces in a straight line.
  • Dazikon throws Confusion Grass at you, or Poison Grass if you are already confused, within a range of 2 spaces.
  • Dozikon throws Sleepy Grass at you, or Poison Grass if you are already asleep, iwithin range of 3 spaces.
  • Mesmerikon throws Rage Grass at you, or Poison Grass if you are already berserk, within range of 5 spaces.

Dazikon, Dozikon and Mesmerikon can throw grasses at you even if you are not on the same line as it, and can do so through a wall.

When defeated, they can only drop Poison Grass, Confusion Grass, Sleepy Grass and Rage Grass for the four variants respectively.

Move to (or stay at) a place that is a knight's move away from a Mutaikon, and wait for it to move towards you. This way you can get the first attack on it before it has a chance to throw Poison Grass at you. This does not work on high level variants.

If you are hit by Poison Grass, carefully evaluate your situation as all monsters will move or attack twice every time you act. If you are surrounded, the safest option is to escape with a Warp Grass or Pinning Staff, or disable the whole room with a scroll such as Confusion Scroll. Talismans can also work, but they can miss. Using Swift Grass will only return you to normal speed. Any strength loss can be restored by eating a Peach, which should be done after the fight.

Dozikons will often trap you in a cycle of sleep and slow, since they can put you to sleep again before you can make a move. Try to disable them at a distance.

Depending on the monster you are fighting against, Cleansing / Anti-Conf. / Alert Bracelet can nullify the effect. With the right bracelet (or having read Immunity Scroll / used a Dodger Pot), you can let a Mutaikon family monster throw grasses at you until your nutrition bar is full.
