Dragon Quest

• Numerous details show connections between the mainline Dragon Quest series and its Mystery Dungeon crossover.
  • In  Torneko's Great Adventure: Mystery Dungeon's introduction, the main location of Dragon Quest IV, along with Torneko and his family, are shown in the game's NES release.
  • In  World of Dragon Warrior: Torneko: The Last Hope's English website, Torneko mentions The King as a distant relative of the Tsar of Zamoksva, who is Alena's father in Dragon Quest IV.

Shiren

• Kechi the Masseur is based on Zatoichi, a Japanese fictional character who travels the land making money by playing dice and giving massages. He is, however, a very highly skilled swordsman.
• The Stumble Trap description in the English release of  Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 3 - The Sleeping Princess and the Karakuri Mansion references Rick Astley's song "Never Gonna Give You Up".
  • "Trips you up, puts you down and your Items run around and desert you."
• The English version of  Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate references multiple media:
  • Star Wars with the item name Darth Scroll.
  • It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia with the description of the item Day Shield.

Pokémon

• When first meeting Swanna in the English version of  Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, she says "You can call me Swanna if you want. Just don't call me maybe.", which is a reference to Carly Rae Jepsen's song, "Call Me Maybe".

Etrian Odyssey

• Like its mainline series, the Gunner class features a pin with Jack Frost's head, a demon in the Megami Tensei franchise and Atlus's mascot.
