MDFW - The Mystery Dungeon Tree of Information.

Players should be wary of dubious online sellers trying to mislabel bootlegs as official products.

Bootlegs are illegal unauthorized reproductions of Mystery Dungeon products, usually video games. This article aims to educate readers on the existence of these illegal products, not to be confused with officially licensed and released products, to prevent the spread of misinformation. For example; despite their appearance, Shiren 1 was never released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and was instead only ever released in Japan for the Super Famicom.

Games

Bootleg video games are usually English versions of the Japan-only releases, with an Unofficial Translation Patch applied to the game. Some untrustworthy sellers may try to pass them off as "rare versions" of said games, preying on uneducated, clueless buyers; while others may target collectors or people who prefer to play games on their native hardware. Regardless of the intent, they're unofficial and illegal and should be treated as such.

Manual of Style

Editors of the MDFW should not mention these unofficial cartridges in articles, galleries, and edition pages, lest they be confused as official releases. The MDFW does not condone or support piracy, or illegal bootlegs, and should not endorse or make note of them in any way outside of this page. Editors should not use screenshots from these bootlegs or the unofficial patches in general.
