Super MD:Mobility
This article is a draft relating to |
Mobility is a mechanic that determines where a Pokémon can travel on the dungeon floor. Some Pokémon can't move to certain places whereas some Pokémon can move to many different places.
Pokémon Mobility
There are six mobility types, with some Pokémon having multiple mobility types. Changing a Pokémon's type (with moves such as Soak or Trick or Treat) or giving a Pokémon the ability Levitate does not affect their mobility as it's determined independently of these.
| Terrain | Pokémon That Can Traverse It | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Air | All Flying-type Pokémon (except Farfetch'd, Doduo, Dodrio, Natu, Xatu, Delibird, Tropius, Archen, and Hawlucha)
All Pokémon with the Levitate ability. (Their flying status is innate to them, not because of the Levitate itself) Abra, Aegislash, Mega Altaria, Mega Banette, Banette, Beedrill, Beedrill, Beldum, Bronzong, Bronzor, Carbink, Castform, Celebi, Darkrai, Deoxys, Diancie, Doublade, Dusclops, Dusknoir, Dustox, Froslass, Mega Gengar, Mega Glalie, Glalie, Honedge, Hoopa (Unbound), Hoopa, Illumise, Jirachi, Klefki, Magnemite, Magneton, Magnezone, Mega Metagross, Metang, Mewtwo, Mew, Probopass, Shedinja, Shiny Celebi, Shuppet, Spritzee, Venomoth, Volbeat, Volcarona |
If these Pokémon are grounded in some way, they won't be able to traverse air tiles. They can still travel on water, magma, and air tiles if they're eligible to. |
| Water | All Water-type Pokémon that aren't flying and don't have the Levitate ability. | If Water-type Pokémon are Flying-type or levitating and are grounded in some way, they'll be on the ground able to traverse water tiles. |
| Magma | All Fire-type Pokémon that aren't flying and don't have the Levitate ability. | If Fire-type Pokémon are Flying-type or levitating and are grounded in some way, they'll be on the ground able to traverse magma tiles. |
| Walls | Mega Banette, Banette, Darkrai, Dusclops, Dusknoir, Duskull, Gastly, Mega Gengar, Gengar, Haunter, Misdreavus, Mismagius, Rotom, Shedinja, Shuppet | In some dungeons, the walls are impassable.
These Pokémon's moves are able to cut corners, including if the move doesn't do so naturally, even in dungeons where they can't pass through walls. |
| Ground | All other Pokémon not listed | |
| Doesn't Move | Metapod, Kakuna, Silcoon, Cascoon | Only moves as the leader or teammate. |
Moves That Affect Mobility
| Name | Effect | |
|---|---|---|
| English | Japanese | |
| Gravity | Under the effects of high gravity, Flying-type Pokémon, those with Levitate, using Fly, Bounce, or Sky Drop, and under the effect of Magnet Rise or Telekinesis, become grounded. After the two-turn moves and status conditions mentioned get cancelled early, those moves will become disabled, along with Jump Kick, High Jump Kick, Splash, and Flying Press. Since everything becomes grounded, that means no Pokémon can travel in the air. | |
| Magnet Rise | It gives the user the Magnet Rise status, which gives mobility that's equivalent to flying, and the Pokémon also becomes ungrounded. | |
| Smack Down | A Flying-type or levitating Pokémon hit by this move will get knocked out of the air and get the grounded status. This move can also hit a Pokémon in the middle of using Fly, Bounce, or Sky Drop. Smack Down does not ground Pokémon that fly due to their mobility but can ground Pokémon that are Flying-type or levitating and prevent them from traveling in the air. Hitting a Pokémon with the Magnet Rise or Telekinesis status conditions won't ground them but will end the status early. Hitting a Pokémon being carried up by Sky Drop will not become grounded when hit by Smack Down, unless the Pokémon is ungrounded. Using Fly, Bounce, Sky Drop, or Magnet Rise cures the afflicted Pokémon of this status. A grounded Pokémon having Telekinesis used on it will cause the move to fail to affect the Pokémon. | |
| Transform | Makes the user's appearance the same as the target Pokémon's, copying that Pokémon's type of mobility. | |
If the user is Flying-type, levitates, or is under the effects of Magnet Rise or Telekinesis, Ingrain will override the ungrounded state these effects provide and ground the Pokémon. A Pokémon being grounded due to Ingrain will still be able to stay on water and magma tiles without warping away, meaning Ingrain doesn't change mobility, despite grounded states typically not permitting a Pokémon that is normally unable to stay on invalid tiles to remain on them. Having the Magnet Rise status on a Pokémon that doesn't fly and can't travel on water/magma and making them use Ingrain also doesn't cause them to warp, at least not right away. If Magnet Rise ends while the user is ingrained and still on invalid terrain, they will lose the ingrained status, immediately warp, and Magnet Rise will finally end.
Roost does not cause the user to become grounded, despite what the description says. The user simply loses its Flying typing, and losing a type also doesn't affect mobility. Rather, what the description really means is that the roosting Pokémon is no longer ungrounded because of its Flying-type, but not grounded either, and can still fly in the air mobile-wise. This is why Pokémon can still roost over invalid terrain such as water and not be warped somewhere, though they can't roost over air tiles, however, which is a restriction tied to the move itself.
Items That Affect Mobility
