StreetPass (Japanese: すれちがい通信) is a gameplay feature that allows the local exchange of data between two players when they meet or walk past each others while their consoles are in sleep mode. It was originally implemented by developers in individual Nintendo DS games, and was later made into a system feature for the Nintendo 3DS. Because of this difference in implementation, Nintendo DS games require the game to be left running, while for Nintendo 3DS games, it can be done without needing to actively run the game, as long as the player enabled StreetPass for it.
